Of pony-rides in May-sunshine

Dear Ms. Feverfew –

“Bilbo was sadly reflecting that adventures are not all pony-rides in May-sunshine.”

Bilbo was one smart hobbit.  I wonder if he knew an adoptee or natural parent or two.

Most (though gratefully, not all) adoptive parents think adoption is a wonderful thing, full of happiness, joy, and blessings for all involved. Few take the time to acknowledge that there is a tremendous amount of pain & heart ache involved for the other people in the adoption equation – people like me. People like you. Some do and for them I am eternally grateful. Most don’t.

And they are the ones who help perpetuate the myth that adoption is all “pony-rides in May-sunshine.”

I don’t know your adoptive parents well enough to know if they are wise like Bilbo or not. Hopefully for your sake they have figured it out.

  1. Frodo said this-

“How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back? There are some things time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep that have taken hold.”

I think they were both very wise don’t you?
